The discussions surrounding the choice of the Dominican Republic as the site of
our 2002 Convention have been nothing but productive in disclosing the wish of
the majority of the membership to provide meaning to this event.
The plight of the Haitian migrant laborers and their families living in
dilapidated quarters (BATEYES) of the sugar cane plantations, which has been a
matter of concern for many watchdog organizations, has as also sensitized many
in the Association.
An AMHE intervention has consequently been designed as a Medical Mission, which
is being organized with the BATEY RELIEF Alliance Inc, (BRA). now at its tenth
medical mission in Dominican Republic.
The mission will take place in the week preceding the convention from July 15 to
July 20 2002 in the BATEYES of San Pedro de Marcoris.
Dr Paul Nacier President of the New York Chapter and lead promoter of this
mission is counting on you all: Family Physicians, Internists, Pediatricians,
Surgeons, Ophthalmologists and Dentists. There is also a great need for
Optometrists, Podiatrists, Pharmacists, and Nurses.
Your commitment to this mission is expected to be finalized by the month of
March for proper planning. Please indicate your willingness to participate as
soon as possible. Send a copy of your professional license and a short resume to
the new AMHE Office:
